On completion of this course the students should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge:
The student has in-depth knowledge of:
- Core concepts and ideas in gender analysis and feminist epistemologies, including critical non-Western perspectives
- Historical and current trends in gender and development as a policy field
- Intersectionality and the politics of location
- Recent perspectives on masculinity and patriarchy
- The politics of reproduction and sexuality
- Different perspectives on empowerment and gender justice
- Gender perspectives on livelihoods and labour
- Gender, culture and human rights
One of the following current issues in gender and development:
- Gender and migration
- Gender violence and conflict
- Gender and climate change
Skills:
The student has the ability to:
- Deal critically with various sources of information and apply them to structure and formulate independent scholarly arguments
- Critically apply key concepts of gender and feminist analysis to discuss empirical and theoretical problems
General competence:
By the end of the course the student has:
- The ability to coherently communicate ideas concerning gendered analysis of development processes both in written work and in oral presentations
- The ability to apply knowledge and skills in new areas to complete complex assignments

Open to all students registered in Master's Programme in Global Development Theory and Practice in the Gender track.
Open to master's students registered in other relevant programmes at UiB and Erasmus exchange students.Maximum of five places - must apply to and be approved by course leader before registration
Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
Obligatorisk undervisningsaktivitet
- Participation in compulsory group work sessions.
- Individual oral presentation of a selected topic from the course curriculum
- Participation in guided, self-directed workshops and student-led lecture on one current gender and development issue (minimum 80% attendance)
