The students will get a working overview of the laws and regulations affecting the organisation and production of aquaculture in Norway, and insight into the way aquaculture research and production are carried out. The field work will involve excursions to two research stations where students will participate in short experiments, and the practical will involve a working placement at a fishfarm or similar commercial facility. The written reports from these activities will be evaluated. Emphasis will also be placed on the laws concerning the health and welfare of aquatic organisms, such as quality control, harvesting regulations, and the fish disease laws. The regulations regarding vaccination, hygiene, disinfection, health certification and monitoring, as well as experimentation with animals will also be reviewed.
To the give students practical insight into the running of commercial activities in aquaculture and into key methods in aquaculture research, as well as a working knowledge of central aspects of the management, organization and regulation of the aquaculture industry in Norway.

This course has a limited capacity, enrolment is based on application. The application deadline is Wednesday in week 2 for the spring semester. Please see this page for more information. It is compulsory to attend the first lecture/orientation meeting, or you risk losing your seat. If you are unable to attend the first lecture, you must contact the Study Section (email@example.com). Compulsory Assignments and Attendance
Compulsory work placement (15 days) + work placement report and presentation.
Compulsory written assignments (3 assignments) covering the regulation and management part of the course.
Approved compulsory activities are valied for 6 semesters, including the semester of completion.
Forms of Assessment
The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade, grade F is a fail.
