Course description
Objectives and Content
Objectives:
The main objective is to train the student in scientific writing by addressing mathematical cases and to present the work from the project. The case studies will have themes ranging over all possible topics treated at a mathematics department. In the work with the project the students will learn how to utilize the library, how to use Latex, and possibly other relevant programmes.
Content:
The course contains training in mathematical writing, project work, the use of LaTex and the library and traing in presentation of project work. The background and interests of the students will be influential in deciding whether the written thesis will concern mathematical modeling, or be based on computer programming, or be a presentation of the contents of a mathematical article.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student has insight in written and oral presentation of mathematical material through the work with, and the presentation of, a written thesis based on a case study.
Skills
The student is able to plan and work on a mathematical project from start to end.
General competence
The student can project work and to follow it from start to end.
