Course description

Objectives and Content

The aim is to provide students with opportunities to specialize in the subject material of relevance to the master or PhD thesis. Subjects within microbial physiology, genetics and ecology will be reviewed on the basis of selected scientific articles and / or book chapters. In this way, the student will gain experience in both reading and extracting knowledge from articles that address the latest research. Part of the litterature shall be submitted by the students in weekly discussion sessions with the course coordinator. The curriculum will be adapted to the individual's interests and needs, and will normally vary from semester to semester.

Semester of Instruction

Spring, irregular.

This course has a limited capacity, enrolment is based on application. The application deadline is Wednesday in week 2 for the spring semester. Please see this page for more information. You will receive confirmation of whether you received a seat in Studentweb no later than Monday the week after the deadline.

It is compulsory to attend the first lecture/orientation meeting, or you risk losing your seat. If you are unable to attend the first lecture, you must contact the Study Section (studie.bio@uib.no). The time of the first lecture/orientation meeting can be found in the schedule on the course website or on Mitt UiB.

Access to the Course
In order to be admitted to the course, you must be admitted to a master¿s programme or the doctoral education (PhD) programme at the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Forms of Assessment
  • Oral exam, accounts for 100% of total grade.
Grading Scale
Pass / Fail.
Assessment Semester
The oral exam is held only in semester with teaching.
