Course description
Course content
The course is designed to facilitate patient and public involvement in medical and health research.
3-day course consisting of lectures, group sessions and discussions.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing this course, the candidate will have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge:
Know the background for the introduction of patient and public involvement in medical and health-professional research.
Gain knowledge of how patient and public involvement has been documented to influence medical and health research, the conduct of clinical studies and the application of research results.
Gain knowledge of the researcher's responsibility for patient and public involvement to be integrated into the entire process in a clinical research project - from planning to project implementation to publication.
Know the role of user organizations and local user committees in recruitment and training for patient and public involvement in research.
Skills:
Being able to communicate research findings to patient and the public.
Being able to discuss with users how their perspectives can contribute to democratization and quality improvement in research projects. Being able to incorporate input from users to improve patient and public involvement in their own research project.
General competence:
Being able to assess and convey the added value of patient and public involvement and initiate productive user involvement in own research projects.

Oral presentation of results from group assignments
Written/oral evaluation of the course's significance for the implementation of patient and public involvement in the student's own research project.

Contribute to the implementation of patient and public involvement in medical and health research.
Students should acquire theoretical knowledge of the background and purpose of patient and public involvement, combined with discussion and reflection upon their own experiences and expectations. The course stimulates close communication between students and user representatives.
