Course description

Objectives and Content

In this course the students will complete their master¿s project which concludes with an exhibition of their design work.¿

The students have shared responsibility for producing the degree show and are expected to participate actively in the planning, production, design, and dissemination of the master¿s projects. The exhibition of student work will be open to the public.¿¿

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the subject the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:

Knowledge:

  • Advanced understanding of exhibition contexts and dissemination strategies¿
  • Ability to identify and understand the needs of stakeholders based on specialized research¿
  • Knowledge and understanding of field specific design contexts.

Skills:¿

  • Ability to plan, collaborate on and complete design exhibition¿
  • Ability to develop, execute, and communicate major, independent design projects¿
  • Ability to independently Initiate and lead complex design processes
  • Ability to apply specialized knowledge from research and theory in own work.¿¿

General competence:¿

  • Ability to summarize, present and mediate extensive design work¿
  • Articulate, verbally and visually, design practice intentions, values, and opinions to different stakeholders
  • Link specialized design challenges to relevant and current contexts¿¿
  • Ability to apply knowledge methodically, experimentally and independently in advanced design processes¿
  • Critically evaluate own progress and renew learning strategies.

90 credits in the master¿s program in Design. DES310, DES311, DES312, DES320, DES321, DES330 must be included.
Credit Reduction due to Course Overlap
Approved subjects from exchange may substitute DES320, DES321 and DES330. (Required passed subjects)

Forms of Assessment

The master¿s program concludes with an examination in the fourth semester. During the examination assessment, students are evaluated based on learning outcomes for Design practice 4 and an overall assessment of their master project.¿

In this course the following forms of assessment will be used:

Portfolio assessment, consisting of Master project documentation, including:¿

  • Exhibited design results
  • Oral presentation of master project¿
  • Reflection component consisting of visual, written or relevant materials that implicitly and explicitly elaborates on - and contextualizes design choices and process (max. 20 000 words).¿

The syllabus will be ready by 01.07. for the autumn semester and 01.12. for the spring semester.
Course Evaluation
The subject will be evaluated every third year, according to UiB¿s quality system
