Course description
Objectives and Content
Objectives:
The course aims to give the candidate theoretical knowledge and practical skills at a high level within flow chemistry and technology. The candidate should be able to utilize the established knowledge and take part in an innovative and further development of the field of flow chemistry and technology. The course also provides the students training in searching and evaluating relevant scientific literature.
Contents:
Basic theoretical knowledge of how to design the manufacture micro--rectors and their characteristics, in-situ reaction monitering, and the limitations and advantages of flow reactor systems. Advanced knowledge and general skills in the use of flow reactors, micro mixers, pumps and other devices included in the flow reactor systems. Furthermore, experimental experience acquired through assignments and demonstrations where flow reactor systems are used for the synthesis of a variety organic target molecules, such as intermediates for pharmaceuticals, active ingredients (drugs) and the analysis of pharmaceuticals, metabolites and biomarkers contained in the biological material.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competance:
Knowledge
The student
- possesses a broad knowledge about flow-chemistry and the technology
- has knowledge about instrumentation used in the field, understand the limitations and advantages of the flow-chemistry and technology
- possess knowledge about how flow chemistry processes can be developed and used for the production of pharmaceutical chemicals.
Skills
The student
- can perform professional development and use technologies and methods in flowchemistry for the production of intermediates and active substances for application as drug substances
- design experiments and conduct experiments in the laboratory
- describe and use flow reactor technology of importance for drug synthesis and other fine chemicals applications
- communicate and cooperation with other professionals
