About our research

The Department of Philosophy combines research on fundamental philosophical questions with research on topics related to global and societal challenges. Its research spans from normative questions concerning democracy and distributive justice to formal analyses of arguments and caual relations, with active research groups in areas including ancient philosophy, logic, practical philosophy, and philosophy of science. The department also has a long-standing tradition of research on the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951). This research is closely connected to the Wittgenstein Archives.

Centers and research infrastructure

The department hosts the Wittgenstein Archives, an internationally used collection of manuscripts and source materials relating to Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy. The archive supports both research and teaching.
