About us
Law studies at the University of Bergen were introduced in 1969, while the Faculty of Law was established in 1980. The faculty building is located on the hillside of the university campus in the heart of Bergen. Today, the Faculty of Law has approximately 2,400 students and employs around 130 people in academic and administrative positions.
At the Faculty of Law, we focus on high-quality research and teaching across a wide range of legal fields. Our international profile is reflected in both our research activities and the many international exchange students we are pleased to welcome each semester.
Our research focus
The faculty has a wide range of research and several internationally recognized academic environments with strong research networks. Much of the research is conducted in close collaboration with public administration and practical legal life, addressing immediate research needs. Our researchers also actively work on research questions related to major societal challenges.
During the period 2023–2030, the faculty will focus on three academic priorities:
- Climate and energy law
- Rule of law and international legal cooperation
- Legal framework for business and innovation
