The staff unit is responsible for the secretariat function for the Faculty Board, provides management support, and coordinates premises and buildings. The staff unit is also responsible for internal and external communication.

The HR section delivers HR services for the entire Faculty of Medicine, UiB. Our HR advisers provide advice, guidance, management support and case processing across much of the HR field — from when a need for recruitment arises, through recruitment, employment contracts and personnel administration, to the end of the employment relationship.

The HR section also assists in restructuring and development projects, strategy and planning work, and prepares cases for the Faculty Board within the HR field.

In collaboration with the study administrations at the departments, the studies section is responsible for following up the study programmes and the more than two thousand students at the faculty, from their first day as a student to graduation. This includes academic guidance, development of the study programmes, information work, case processing of study matters and student exchange.

The research section administers the PhD programme and the Medical Student Research Programme (Forskerlinjen) for students in medicine and dentistry. We provide support for applications for external funding and work on developing the faculty's innovation efforts. The section also coordinates Driv – Centre for Women's Health Research. The finance section has overall professional responsibility for financial management at the Faculty of Medicine. The section is also responsible for ensuring that guidelines for procurement, finance and reporting are followed for the faculty administration and the faculty's shared funds. Center for Medical Education has as its main task to contribute to the best possible learning conditions for students at the Faculty of Medicine, through targeted competence building among teaching staff, educational guidance and participation in research and development projects. EFL arranges courses and seminars on various topics, and also offers guidance to individual employees and/or groups of employees.

Global Challenges is one of three thematic priority areas at the University of Bergen, alongside "Climate and Energy Transition" and "Ocean". These are arenas that promote interdisciplinary collaboration and activities across the whole university.

The priority area "Global Challenges" connects people and creates meeting places for both academic and administrative staff. The unit organises large and small events and research schools, and supports and promotes projects and collaborative initiatives.

Inequality is at the very core of today's societal challenges: we are seeing pervasive differences in access to resources, health, security, education and rights. Inequality is therefore central to the work on global societal challenges at the University of Bergen. Global Challenges is led by head of office Nils Gunnar Songstad.

The Regional Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics, Western Norway (REK Vest) (external link) (Norwegian webpage) is led by head of section Anna Stephansen.

The Faculty Board is the faculty's highest body, and makes decisions on overarching financial and strategic matters for the faculty. Read more on the Faculty Board's web page.

Under the Basic Agreement in the civil service (Hovedavtalen) and the Adaptation Agreement (Tilpasningsavtalen) at UiB, the Information and Consultation Committee (IDU) safeguards employees' right of co-determination. .

In addition, there is a separate appointment council for technical and administrative positions at UiB.

In addition to being an advisory body for the Faculty Board in education matters, the study leadership has an important coordinating function for the study programmes at the faculty. The study leadership also acts as the faculty's study quality committee, in line with UiB's system for study quality.

The study leadership is led by the Vice-Dean for Education, and consists of the programme committee leaders and student representatives.

The Faculty of Medicine has established programme committees for all eight study programmes.

The programme committees are established by the faculty to ensure that our study programmes are organised and delivered with high quality. The programme committees are advisory and case-preparing bodies on matters concerning the faculty's study programmes, but can also themselves adopt minor changes to curricula, teaching and/or courses. Students are represented on the programme committees.

The Joint Education Council is an arena for discussing matters relevant to education.

The council is responsible for raising and discussing matters of an overarching and fundamental nature with shared interest within the field of education. Emphasis is placed on mutual exchange of information about plans and circumstances of importance to the educational collaboration, before a final decision is made in the parties' own decision-making bodies.

The council consists of representatives from each of the parties Helse Bergen (Haukeland University Hospital), Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, in addition to one student representative.

The chairing of the council rotates between the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, represented by Vice-Dean Reidun Kjome (odd-numbered years) and Haukeland University Hospital, represented by Director of Professional Affairs Marta Ebbing (even-numbered years).

The Education Council is an arena for discussing matters, exchanging experience and developing collaboration on academic, pedagogical and organisational aspects of placement and education. The council is responsible for raising matters of an overarching, fundamental nature with shared interest within the field.

The council consists of representatives from each of the parties: the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, the Faculty of Psychology, UiB, and the City of Bergen — the City Department for the Elderly, Health and Care (BEHO) and the City Department for Child Welfare, Social Services and Diversity (BBSM). There are also two student representatives.

The council is led by the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, represented by Vice-Dean Reidun Kjome.

The secretariat is provided by the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, represented by senior adviser Kristin Walter.

The council facilitates collaboration that provides high-quality education. This includes, among other things, ensuring access to patients and patient data for educational purposes, involvement in the development of teaching plans, mutual exchange of information relevant to the parties' educational activities, and good use of resources.

The council consists of representatives from each of the parties, in addition to one student representative.

The council is led by the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, represented by Vice-Dean Reidun Kjome.

The network's mandate is to contribute to continued national coordination in the placement field, and to discuss and safeguard shared rules between the educational institutions and the Public Dental Health Service (DOT).

The network consists of representatives from the educational institutions with dentistry, dental hygiene and dental technician programmes (UiB, UiO, UiT, INN), and the Public Dental Health Service (DOT).

The network is led by Kristin S. Klock, professor and academic head of clinical placement studies in dentistry — Department of Clinical Dentistry, UiB.

The secretariat is provided by the Faculty of Medicine, UiB, represented by senior adviser Kristin Walter.

The network meets as needed, at least once per semester.

Extended research and innovation leadership is an advisory body where research and innovation matters are discussed. The committee consists of research and innovation leaders at the faculty, as well as representatives of the postdoctoral and PhD candidate group. The committee handles both overarching matters, such as consultations and strategic questions, and more concrete issues related to the faculty's research and innovation activities. The committee is led by the Pro-Dean for Research.

The programme committee for PhD training is responsible for ensuring and further developing the quality of the PhD programme. The committee works on the evaluation of courses and the overall course portfolio, and assesses the need for changes to or discontinuation of courses.

It also contributes to the annual research training report, follows up feedback from candidate surveys and progress reporting, and assesses measures related to delays and dropout.

In addition, the programme committee plays a central role in periodic programme evaluations, including by proposing external committees and facilitating evaluation of the programme as a whole. For more information about the committee, contact coordinator Havjin Jacob.
