About the research at the Faculty of Medicine
The Faculty of Medicine (MED) covers a broad spectrum of research fields within medicine and health at a high international level.
An overview of our research
The faculty is visible at the forefront of international research. We contribute to renewing the knowledge base in disease understanding, prevention, diagnostics and treatment, with the goal of better health and living conditions for people around the world.
We host major research and innovation centres in medicine and health:

- several major projects funded by the ERC, the Cancer Mission and the health calls of Horizon Europe
The faculty's research is carried out in close collaboration with key societal actors and renowned research institutions. The most important of these is Haukeland University Hospital, which anchors our research in clinical practice. We also work closely with the municipalities, the Western Norway Regional Health Authority (Helse Vest), the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, the Norwegian Armed Forces, the local health industry, and global organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).
Medical research requires advanced and up-to-date infrastructure for excellent research and innovation. The faculty's research infrastructure is organized into several core facilities. An overview of the core facilities is available below.

The Medical Student Research Programme
The Medical Student Research Programme (Forskerlinjen) in medicine and dentistry is a special track for up to 10 per cent of medical and dental students who are interested in medical research and want to do research alongside their studies.

The Søren Falch awards and lecture
On behalf of the fund of Consul Søren Falch and ophthalmologist Sigurd Falch for medical science, the faculty awards annual prizes to medical researchers who have distinguished themselves. The faculty also hosts an annual guest lecture.
