National research infrastructure at GEO
Two of the Institute of Geosciences (GEO) laboratories have the status of national research infrastructure. Earthlab and Farlab. GEO is the host institute for Normar, the national ROV vessel Ægir 6000. The institute is also the host institute for the national European Plate Observing System Norway (EPOS-N)
Bergen Geoanalytical Facility
EARTHLAB
EARTHLAB offers advanced instrumentation for sediment analysis. The infrastructure includes a wide range of instruments, enabling e.g. non-destructive scanning with ultra-high resolution and discrete sampling of sediments with high precision. Research at the sediment laboratory is focused on paleoclimatology, environmental change and geohazards, mainly sampling lacustrine and marine cores as well as terrestrial sediment sections.
FARLAB
Facility for Advanced Isotope Research and Monitoring of Weather, Climate and Biogeochemical Cycles (FARLAB). FARLAB is Norway's national facility for light stable isotopes, operated by the GEO and GFI departments at the University of Bergen.
LABELISA
Laboratory for Element and Isotope Analysis (LABELISA). The main goal of LABELISA is to serve basic and applied research in elemental and isotope geochemistry and analytical chemistry for researchers from academic and public institutions, private companies and industry.
ELMILAB
The Electron Microscopy Laboratory (ELMILAB) is an interdisciplinary platform for materials, geo- and life science electron microscopy, microanalysis and multimodal imaging at the University of Bergen. The facility offers services, expertise and access to state-of-the-art instruments to academic and commercial users. The versatile equipment enables various imaging methods. The most commonly used are highlighted below.
