Barbara is a Ph.D. Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen. Her Ph.D. project "The role of business entities in combatting marine plastic pollution" is dealing with the legal and economic aspects of marine plastic pollution with a special focus on EU legislation and policies. The active participation of the corporate sector is essential to reduce the impacts and costs of plastics on the environment. During the research, Barbara would like to understand how environmental regulations can promote the circular economy in the plastic production value chain and how the corporate sector could be involved in the fight against marine plastic pollution in a responsible way

Marine plastic is high on the research agenda at UIB, see i.e. https://www.uib.no/en/news/108425/plastic-oceans-what-do-we-know

This Ph.D. project is one of several focusing on marine plastic, financed by UIB, under UIB Priority Areas (https://www.uib.no/en/priority-areas), Marine research (https://www.uib.no/en/marine) and led by supervisor Prof. Sigrid Eskeland Schütz and co-supervisor Dr. Ignacio Herrera-Anchustegui, LL.M.

Barbara holds a Master’s degree in Law and a Master’s degree in International Economy and Business. During the years she had the chance to work in different roles and workplaces both in the private and the public sector. She came to UiB from a position as a senior legal counsel/lead lawyer in the field of energy law at the Hungarian Oil and Gas Company (MOL Group).
