Main research areas

My research interests has been divided between obstructive pulmonary diseases, cystic fibrosis, and covid-19.

COPD

My Ph.D. thesis from 2018 explored tidal Expiratory flow limitation in patients with stable COPD detected non-invasively with impulse oscillometry in the Bergen COPD Cohort Study (BergenCOPD). We also presented  normal values for within-breath oscillometric indices in elderly. Later projects on COPD has been investigating the use of a digital clinical decision-support system in the management of COPD. Presently we cooperate with Helse i Hardanger with a project investigating if a 3-days comprehensive concentrated interdisciplinary group rehabilitation program with a digital follow-up can give lasting behavioral changes in patients with COPD leading to more physical activity.

Asthma

In my clinical position at Haukeland University Hospital we have created a registry for patients with severe asthma on biologic therapy. We cooperate with the International Severe Asthma Registry. I am the Norwegian delegate in the Nordic Severe Asthma Network (NSAN) and in the steering commettee of the NORDSTAR research project. Severeal publications have come  from the registry cooperation, NSAN, the and the NORDSTAR project.

Cystic fibrosis

I have been a co-investigator in the Vertex, VX20-121-103 study on CFTR-modulator therapy which sparked reasearch interest for this patient group in my department. We currently have a projects on nutrition and physiotherapy in patients with cystic fibrosis where we compare the situation before and after the patient was put on CFTR-modulator therapy.

Post covid fatigue

Following the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, a large number of patients suffer from long COVID with fatigue as one of the most commonly reported symptoms, impacting level of functioning, quality of life and ability to work. We are cooperating with Helse i Hardanger with a project investigating the effect of a 3-days comprehensive concentrated interdisciplinary group rehabilitation program in patients in patients with long COVID fatigue.
