Charles Michalsen

Associate Professor

Department of Design

In his artistic research, Michalsen explores the subtext of culture and language:
‘What I say becomes accessible to others. I find it exciting to study the transition between sender and receiver. This does not necessarily involve the written word, but the sounds and body language used in interpersonal communication. My point of departure is the notion that a sign does not exist until the other part has responded to it.’

Michalsen explores how to design tools that enable us to reflect on personal interpretations and meanings, while simultaneously creating dialogue through a visual play with language.
