Center researchers represented at Arendalsuka 2026
Arendalsuka has become an important arena for engaging politicians and key public health authorities. Professors Eva Gerdts and Tone M. Norekvål are among the researchers contributing with opinion pieces and participating in debates.

In a democracy, all citizens should have equal rights, equal opportunities, and equal access to healthcare services. Nevertheless, recent national registry data show that women with cardiovascular disease continue to receive later diagnoses, less precise treatment, and poorer follow-up than men. When the healthcare system systematically fails a large part of the population, this challenges not only medical practice, but also a fundamental democratic principle: the right to equitable healthcare as a prerequisite for full citizenship.
In the debate on 10 August, we highlight these data and invite an open discussion on underlying causes and possible solutions. The event is organized in collaboration between the University of Agder, Center for eHealth, the Norwegian Association for Heart and Lung Patients and Stroke Survivors, and Haukeland University Hospital. Professor Eva Gerdts will introduce the discussion.
In the debate on 13 August, we focus on the eHealth competence needed in society. Digital preparedness is not only about technology, but also about people. For individuals to manage their own health—in everyday life, during illness, and in crises—eHealth literacy is essential. The ability to understand, assess, and use digital health services affects prevention, self-management, and the quality of rehabilitation. In this session, academic communities present new knowledge and practical experiences, followed by a panel discussion exploring how to strengthen digital health preparedness in Norway. Examples from cardiovascular health and rehabilitation, as well as from individuals with varying functional abilities, illustrate why this is one of today’s key public health priorities. Professor Tone M. Norekvål will introduce the discussion.
