Professor Norekvål is an internationally leading researcher in this field and has previously been awarded the ESC Silver Medal for her contributions. The Center for Research on Women’s Heart Disease is a partner in her eHjerteRehab project and leads the work package on women. The project focuses on digital cardiac rehabilitation and how cardiac rehabilitation programmes can be optimally adapted to meet the needs of older women.

Cardiac rehabilitation improves quality of life, reduces the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events, and prolongs survival following myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, cardiac rehabilitation services remain underdeveloped in Norway, and only approximately 15 per cent of patients receive high-quality multidisciplinary care. With the first ESC guidelines now in place, Norwegian health trusts must prioritize this important form of secondary prevention.
