I hold a BA in Classics from the University of Lisbon and an MA in Ancient History from Leiden University. My MA thesis explored the identity and motivations of the Donatists, an early Christian schismatic church from Roman North Africa, through the lens of their commemorative practices for the dead.
The Donatists, who proclaimed themselves to be the Church of the Martyrs, will remain at the center of my work within the RADHEART project. My research, entitled The Sons of the Martyrs: Narratives at the Heart of Donatist Commitment, examines what martyr narratives can reveal about ancient forms of radical religion. I find it fascinating how narratives of our past, whether real or fabricated, shape human experience and our perception of the world. I hope to illuminate how such narratives contribute to the crystallization of our religious and personal identity.
