Nomination
You must be officially nominated by your home institution before you can apply for exchange at UiB.

Contact your home institution coordinator to find out if you are eligible for exchange to UiB. We do not admit free movers.
After your home university has nominated you, you will receive two emails from UiB with the following information:
- Password and link to access our online application portal Søknadsweb.
- Information on how to complete your application.
Note: You must wait until you have received these emails from UiB before you can begin your online exchange application!
Nomination period
- Autumn semester or full academic year: between 15 March and 15 April.
- Spring semester: between 1 September and 1 October.
If you didn't receive the emails from UIB
Your password and link to access Søknadsweb will be sent from no-reply@uib.no. If you didn't receive the emails:
- Check with your home institution that you have been nominated in our online nomination portal.
- Check which email address was used in connection with your nomination (student or private email).
- Check your spam filter and remember to whitelist no-reply@uib.no
- Order a new password in Søknadsweb. You will receive a reply immediately.
- Send an email to incoming@uib.no to check if your email address is registered correctly.

- Autumn semester or full academic year: 25 April.
- Spring semester: 15 October.
Application step-by -step
Step 1: Log in
- Go to Søknadsweb's login page.
- Choose International Applicant (do not select Feide).
- Log in with your email address and the password sent to you by email (do not select "register new international applicant").
Step 2: Complete your profile in Søknadsweb
Register your complete home address as follows:
- Street address and house number
- Postal code/zip code and city name
- Country
- Mobile phone number
Do not use a P.O. box or your university address.
Note: Exchange students can ignore the message regarding "Entrance requirements".
Click Next to continue your application
Step 3: Select faculty and courses
Choose the relevant faculty and semester or semesters. Your choices will depend on the agreement your home university has nominated you on. Erasmus+ students will only have one choice.
Select courses. We offer both open and restricted courses. In your online application, you only apply for restricted courses.
Before you apply for courses, check the course list for exchange students. There you will find information about course codes, course content, prerequisites, etcetera, for each course.
You should take courses according to the agreement you have been nominated for. It is, however, possible to take additional courses at other departments or faculties, depending on your academic background.
Step 4: Upload documents
You must upload the following documents as PDF or jpg files by 15 April/ 15 October:
- Passport/National ID card (gender must be stated in the passport/ID card).
- Official Transcript of Records (academic record with previous approved/passed courses taken at university level). You must be able to document a minimum of 30 ECTS in your application. We require you to have 60 ECTS from home institution before the semester starts in Bergen.
- The transcript must be in English or in a Scandinavian language. Alternatively, you can upload your original transcript together with a self-made translation. If you are a Master or PhD student, you must submit transcript(s) with your courses completed at both bachelor and master level.
Step 5: complete your application
When all documents have been uploaded click Done to complete your application or Save if you have made any changes. You can update your application at any time before the application deadline.
Application deadline for students is 25 April.
Do you need further documentation?
You are a citizen of a county outside EU/EFTA
As a non-EU/EFTA citizen you must upload proof of financing. This is a mandatory requirement and also applies to non-EU/EFTA citizens studying in an EU/EFTA country.
Documentation of financing is required in connection with student visa application and must be uploaded to Søknadsweb within the application deadline.
You must upload one of the following documents to Søknadsweb
- Official confirmation of funding issued by your home institution.
- Bank statement in your name which shows sufficient funding (in a currency equivalent to the amount listed below).
- Official signed letter or confirmation that you will receive a scholarship, grant or a student loan for your studies abroad.
- Letter from your parents confirming your relationship and stating the financial support for your exchange period in Norway. You must also attach a bank statement in their name.
All the documentation must be issued in English in order to be considered for exchange.
You must document the following amount
- You are staying for the autumn semester 2025 only: Will be updated by 1 April 2025.
- You are staying for two semesters (2024/2025) or longer: Will be updated by 1 April 2025.
- Will be updated by 1 April 2025. You are staying for the spring semester 2025 only:
You do not have to document sufficient funding if you are applying for
- Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility
- The Short-term Psychology Programme
You are applying for courses in English Language and Literature (ENG-courses)
If you apply for courses in English Language and Literature, ENG-courses, you must document a minimum level of English proficiency equivalent to C1 CEFR.

You are applying to the Faculty of Science and Technology
You must complete and upload a form with list of courses in progress, if these courses are not included in your uploaded transcript of records.
You are applying to the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design
Applicants to Fine Art
- Portfolio of work samples: 6 – 10 works. You are free to choose media and content.
- Letter of motivation: Maximum 1 page. Master level applicants must define his/her own independent artistic project in the motivation letter.
- Brief CV: Maximum 1 page
Applicants to Design
- Portfolio of work samples: 6 – 10 works. You are free to choose media and content.
- Letter of motivation: Maximum 1 page
- Brief CV: Maximum 1 page
- Project description (Master level applicants only): Maximum 2 pages. Topic and area that the design project aims to explore. Motivation for executing the project and societal relevance of the project. Objectives and main questions of the project. How you intend to carry out and present the project
Applicants to Music – performance/composition
- You must apply in EASY Mobility Online by 1 March.
- All the required documentation and audition material must be submitted through EASY Mobility Online.
- If you are offered admission, you will be added to UiB's application system in April/October (depending on when you will start your exchange).
You want to apply for regular courses taught in Norwegian (NOT Norwegian language courses)
If you are proficient in one of the Scandinavian languages Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, you can apply for courses taught in Norwegian.
You must document your proficiency in a Scandinavian language by uploading one of the following documents:
- Transcript of records (from high school or university level) which shows that you fulfill the language requirements.
- Your passport from Norway, Sweden or Denmark.
FAQ
How do I know that you have received my application?
Your application is officially submitted when you have completed the following tasks:
- Registered your complete home address.
- Uploaded all the required documentation.
- If applicable: selected restricted courses.
What does it mean that my application status is "Under consideration"
The status of your application will be set to Under consideration until the assessment process is completed and you are requested to accept the offer of admission.
When will I know which courses I have been granted admission to?
Your application will be assessed and processed by 10 June.
- An overview of all granted and rejected courses (if any) will be available in Søknadsweb by 10 June.
- If you need to apply for new restricted courses, you can do so after you have been given access to Studentweb in mid-July.
When will I receive my letter of acceptance?
The letter of acceptance will be published in Søknadsweb by 10 June.
- You will receive an email notification as soon as your letter of acceptance is available.
- You can download a copy from Søknadsweb. We do not send paper copies of the letter of acceptance.
How do I accept my offer?
When admitted, you will be asked to accept or decline your offer by 15 June.
- You will receive an email notification.
- Confirmation of acceptance/decline must be done in Søknadsweb.
- You can safely accept the offer of admission even if you do not know if you will be able to travel to Norway or if your application for restricted courses has been rejected.
Can I apply for new courses after the application deadline?
You can apply for new course after getting access to our online registration service for students " Studentweb". In Studentweb you can make changes to your study plan, if needed.
You can apply for new restricted courses and the Norwegian language courses as well as register for open courses in Studentweb.
How do I register for the semester?
By mid-July you will be given access to our online registration service for students " Studentweb.". You must register in Studentweb and sign up for courses, lectures and exams every semester.
The registration deadline is:
- Autumn semester: 1 September
- Spring semester: 1 February
Before you sign up for courses, you should check the course schedules and exam dates to make sure that the classes and exams for your courses do not overlap. These are published on 1 July for autumn courses and 1 December for spring courses.

When do I prepare my Learning Agreement?
Prepare your LA/OLA after you have been accepted to UiB and you have signed up for your courses in Studenweb in mid-June or mid-December.
You should only list restricted courses you have been admitted to in your LA/OLA. Otherwise, we will decline your LA/OLA and you will have to start the process of having it signed one more time.
The faculty you will be studying at will sign your LA/OLA by the receiving responsible person at the faculty.
