Jeg er en langsiktig økolog og global endringsøkolog som studerer økologiske responser på miljøendringer. Jeg leder forskningsgruppen PalaeoChem og er en aktiv forsker i paleoøkologi ved UiB. Mitt hovedarbeid er å utvikle nye metoder for å (i) rekonstruere UV-B-stråling i sedimenter basert på pollenkjemiske biomarkører og (ii) undersøke andre anvendelser av pollenkjemi i langsiktig økologi. Jeg er også interessert i å bruke langsiktige økologiske og andre tidsseriedatasett for å bedre forstå driverne bak endringer i økosystemer og biologisk mangfold i fortid, nåtid og fremtid. Vi bruker hovedsakelig felt- og drivhusforsøk og sedimentkjerner for å forske på disse spørsmålene.


Jeg fungerer også som leder for Ecological and Environmental Change Research Group, som består av 8 andre faste ansatte og en rekke andre forskerteam som har fokus på å forstå driverne bak biologisk mangfold og økologiske og evolusjonære endringer i terrestriske økosystemer.

Jeg er veldig interessert i å veilede masterstudenter for 2025 og 2026! Ta kontakt hvis du er interessert i å gjøre et prosjekt enten i felt, lab eller drivhus! Vi har mange potensielle spennende prosjekter, inkludert:

  • Drivhuseksperimenter for å teste UV-responser fra planter (innenfor Laschamps-UV-prosjektet og med Alistair Seddon)
  • Mål på økosystemresiliens ved bruk av fossile pollenregistreringer (med et spesifikt fokus på sørafrikanske biomer med Alistair Seddon)
  • Kvantifisere biodiversitetsendring og responsene på menneskelig aktivitet i holocen (med Vivian Felde)
