Matthias Kaiser er professor emeritus og tidligere senterleder for Senter for vitenskapsteori (SVT) ved Universitetet i Bergen og studerte ved universitetene i München, Oslo, Stanford og Frankfurt. Hans kompetanseområder inkluderer: vitenskapsfilosofi (Dr.phil.), vitenskapsetikk og teknologivurdering. Hans kompetanseområder inkluderer sosiale studier av vitenskap og teknologi, vitenskapshistorie, etikk, logikk og filosofihistorie. Hans interesseområder inkluderer, men er ikke begrenset til: grensesnittet mellom vitenskap og politikk, risiko, føre-var-prinsippet, akvakultur, mat-etikk, verdistudier, integritet i forskning, energi, offentlig deltakelse i forskning, genmodifiserte organismer, transdisciplinaritet. I ulike roller har Kaiser gitt råd til politikere på nasjonalt og EU-nivå. Kaiser er sjefredaktør for det vitenskapelige tidsskriftet Food Ethics (Springer) og tidligere president i European Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics (www.eursafe.org). Kaiser har publisert en rekke publikasjoner (>180 artikler).
