Forskning

Dr. Weinreich’s research forges new ground in the transport literature, connecting the role that governance and financial institutions have on public transportation and access to opportunities. Weinreich has taken an international comparative approach to understanding transport governance challenges that vary across political systems.  In his current work at the Centre for Climate and Energy Transformation at the University of Bergen, Weinreich is leading a multi-national comparative analysis of the causes and consequences of transport fragmentation under different political systems, including cities in the US and Europe.  Weinreich was previously a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow in Israel, focusing on the institutional challenges of providing transport to peripheral areas, and coordination across different private operators in their tendering process.  Weinreich was the Principal Investigator (PI) of three US Department of Transportation-funded projects at the University of Texas at Arlington, including comprehensive national studies of public transport governance in the United States. This was the first national and systematic analysis of jurisdictional fragmentation of US public transport systems, creating a dataset that covers over 12,500 local municipalities.

Weinreich was also PI of a project on governance and funding decisions for toll roads in 20 states, and a project focusing on the challenges of coordination app-based, on-demand services with traditional fixed route transit.  Weinreich publishes in leading transport and urban planning journals like Transport Policy and the Journal of Urban Affairs, and contributed to a recent handbook on Transportation and Public Policy with leading transport governance scholars from around the world.
