Forskning

Jostein Bakke (JB) er professor ved Institutt for geovitenskap og er medlem av faggruppen for Kvartærgeologi og paleoklima samt direktør for Senter for integrert utdanning i geovitenskap (iEarth) og leder for sediment laboratoriet EARTHLAB (nasjonal infrastruktur).

Bakke er Dr. Scient (PhD) i naturgeografi fra Institutt for geografi ved Universitetet i Bergen. JB har forskningsbakgrunn innen kvartærgeologi, naturgeografi, glasialhistorie, paleoklimatologi, geomorfologi og studier av innsjøsedimenter over hele verden. JB forsvarte sin doktorgradsavhandling «Late Weichselian and Holocene glacier fluctuations along a coastal south-north transect in Norway – climatic and methodological implications» 16.04.2004 ved Institutt for geografi, Universitetet i Bergen.

JB har veiledet 79 masterstudenter og 15 PhD-studenter, har omfattende undervisningserfaring fra 11 kurs, og har publisert 91 artikler i internasjonale fagfellevurderte vitenskapelige tidsskrifter, rapporter, populærvitenskapelige artikler samt 103 konferansebidrag på internasjonale konferanser.

JB mottok Fulbright Arctic Chair Award for det akademiske året 2011/2012.

JB har vært finansiert gjennom flere prosjekter støttet av Norges forskningsråd (NFR), inkludert SOUTHSPHERE (2018-2024), SHIFTS (2009-2014) og X-LAKE (2007-2009), som fokuserte på bruk av innsjøsedimenter for å rekonstruere tidligere klimavariabilitet i Arktis, Skandinavia og Sørishavet. Gjennom årene har JB vært involvert i prosjekter i Himalaya (GLACINDIA), Europa og Skandinavia. I det nasjonalt koordinerte forskningsprosjektet NORPAST-2, finansiert av NFR, var JB postdoktor i en av prosjektmodulene som studerte klimavariasjoner i senistiden og holocen. JB var også tilknyttet et strategisk universitetsprogram (SUP) med tittelen «Norwegian paleoenvironment and climate as reconstructed from lake sediments (NORPEC)», finansiert av NFR under hans doktorgradsstipendiat.
