Forskning
Marianna Betti har fullført sin doktorgrad i sosialantropologi fra Universitetet i Bergen i 2020. Hun har en MPhil i "Anthropology of Development" (2010) fra samme institusjon og en Master i arkeologi (2005) fra Cotsen Institute of Archaeology ved UCLA. Marianna Betti har utført antropologisk feltarbeid i Øst-Afrika og Europa, og hennes forskningsinteresser ligger i politisk økologi, antropologi av olje og energi, utvikling og fenomenologi. I sin doktorgradsforskning har hun utforsket den nylige oppdagelsen av hydrokarboner i Turkana i nordvest Kenya. Hun har sett på hvordan oljevirksomheten har påvirket sosiale relasjoner på forskjellige skalaer, og hvordan ulike grupper har reagert på de raske endringene som oppdagelsen av oljen har skapet. Bettis siste interesser handler om hvilke former og sosiale manifestasjoner av energiomstilling som gjør til sosial praksis, det store spekteret av konflikter som oppstår fra, for eksempel, energisårbarhet og ulik omfordeling av energiressursene, og om livet og handlefriheten til "hyperobjekter" innebygd i den "automation turn".
