Trond Bruun er seksjonsoverlege ved Infeksjonsseksjonen , Medisinsk klinikk, Haukeland universitetssykehus og 1. amanuensis II ved Klinisk institutt 2, UiB. Viktigste forskningfelt er innen alvorlige hud- og bløtvevsinfeksjoner, spesielt erysipelas, cellulitt og nekrotiserende fasciitt forårsaket av Streptococcus pyogenes og Streptococcus dysgalactiae. Forskningen fokuserer først og fremst på klinisk epidemiologi, kliniske trekk og behandling sett i relasjon til verten og bakterienes egenskaper. For tiden deltar Bruun og streptokokkforskningsgruppen ved Universitetet i Bergen og Haukeland universitetssykehus i PERMIT- og PERAID-prosjektene (https://permedinfect.com/) finansiert av Nordforsk og EU. Disse prosjektene har som mål å fremme forskning på persontilpasset medisin (PM) ved alvorlige infeksjonssykdommer, spesielt livstruende nekrotiserende bløtvevsinfeksjoner (NSTI) og sepsis.
Undervisning
Trond Bruun underviser medisinstudenter i infeksjonssykdommer i flere semestre (MED6, MED8, MED11 og MED12).
