Course description
Objectives and Content
The aim for this subject is to introduce the students to the process of research through design and design through research.
The aim of the module is developing the project work by uncovering, clarifying, expanding, or delimiting key issues in design as research.
Content:
The module includes introduction to artistic research, the design field, and variety of contexts.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the subject the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:
Knowledge:
- Will know about relations between practices, investigation, and exploration within the context of design research.
Skills:
- Will be able to identify different approaches within design research.
- Will be able to develop and express design issues and questions.
- Will apply relevant strategies and theoretical approaches to design as research.
General competence:
- Will be able to apply relevant research and approaches to a design project.

Admission to the master's program in design.
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures, discussions, presentations, workshops, group work and individual assignments.
Forms of Assessment
The following form of assessment are used in this subject:
- A visual and written report detailing student application of design as research, theory, and practice. Max. 5000 words

The syllabus will be ready by 01.07. for the autumn semester and 01.12. for the spring semester.
