Heavy Ion Physics at Intermediate and High Energies

Postgraduate course

Course description

Objectives and Content

The goal of the course is to convey an understanding of the properties of strongly interacting (QCD) matter

The course includes models for heavy ion collisions, kinematics, correlations, equation of state for nuclear matter, particle production in nuclear collisions, phase transitions, quark-gluon plasma and its experimental signature.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course

the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

The student should have

  • an thorough overview over heavy ion physics at medium and high energies
  • a broad basis for further experimental and theoretical studies
