Courses

ARA111: The course aims to provide basic training in Modern Standard Arabic. In addition, the course provides an overview of contemporary Arabic literary history.

ARA112: The course is based on ARA111 and is a compulsory part of the specialization in Arabic. The course ARA112 will convey an understanding of Arabic morphology, syntax, the history of Arabic literature from the Middle Ages and Arabic culture and society.

ARA113: ARA113 builds on ARA112. The course addresses topics such as the basic features of modern Arabic grammar, Arabic literary history and culture in general.

CanCode Project

The project examines processes of change in Islamic legal texts by starting with two terms or concepts: "Canonization" and "Codification". These terms are used in different ways by scholars in the field of Islamic jurisprudence, but both draw attention to the selection and validation or authorization of knowledge, norms and legal rules. The project is a collaborative project between the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion at the Faculty of Humanities.
