Objectives and Content
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
The student will have knowledge on basic occupational medicine and ¿hygiene, in addition to tasks and structure of company health services. The student will know about the most important risk factors for illness and injuries due to working conditions, and the most important occupational diseases both nationally and internationally. They will have knowledge on the steps in risk assessment and the correlation between exposure and health damage. Also important is that the students know how to reduce unhealthy exposure, what international laws, regulations and standards that regulates work.
Skills
The student can perform basic risk assessment of a work place and give advice on how prevention can be done at the work place to prevent sickness and injuries. The student will also be able to assess the value of different preventive measures at the work place and seek relevant literature on the subject.
Competence
The student will understand how the different actors in health and safety work together, employer, employee, safety officer, company health service, departments of occupational medicine and labour authority. The student will also reflect over work and health in a global perspective.
Access to the Course
Teaching and learning methods
The course uses an online MOOC available at futurelearn.com The course is developed by the research group for occupational- and environmental medicine at UoB. The course which will be used for elective course starts in March and ends in May.
As an elective course the following teaching methods are chose:
Online course: One must calculate to use about 2 hours daily the weeks the course is ongoing. This to follow the different discussions, and quizzes.
