Course description
Objectives and Content
Aim:
The course will give an introduction to modern statistical methods in medical research
Contents:
The course will give the students knowledge about:
Study design, probability theory, descriptive statistics, diagnostic tests, fundamental distributions, important methodical concepts/measures, hypothesis testing, estimation, fundamental test procedures, correlation, logistic regression and survival analysis

- describe a collection of observations both numerically and graphically
- calculate p-values and confidence intervals and interpret these in simple standard situations
- perform statistical analysis on medical data

- critically evaluate the use of statistics in medical literature

Recommended Previous Knowledge
Teaching and learning methods
The teaching is based on 28 hours of lectures and 8 hours of group work.
Students meet prepared for class. Brief lectures, and work in groups.
Two sets of assignment will be handed out. Students work with assignments in groups, assisted by a colloquium leader.
Forms of Assessment
Mandatory assignment: two written assignment and a MCQ test. All three has individual due date. All three parts have to be passed to pass the course.
If failed written assignments, new assesment will take place in the next teaching semester.
If failed MCQ test, new assesment will take place within the semester
