About the University of Bergen
The University of Bergen was founded in 1946 and is one of Norway's leading research universities. The university lies in the centre of Bergen, close to city life, business and culture.
The University Museum traces its roots back to Bergen Museum, founded in 1825. Research and education at UiB span a broad range of fields, from the humanities and law to medicine, the natural sciences and the arts.
Research and international collaboration
UiB is an internationally oriented university with extensive research collaboration in Europe and the rest of the world. 41% of the PhD candidates hold foreign citizenship.
The university hosts several Norwegian Centres of Excellence and leading academic communities in fields such as climate and ocean research, medicine and the social sciences.
