Division of Student and Academic Affairs
The Division of Student and Academic Affairs is responsible for organizing and administering the university's educational offerings. We are responsible for student admissions, quality assurance of the teacher education programme, student communications, a range of UiB's digital systems, and projects.

The Division of Academic Affairs facilitates and administers the University of Bergen’s educational provision and supports students, academic communities, and the University leadership throughout the student journey.

Organization
The Division of Student and Academic Affairs is led by Director Christen Soleim and is part of the University of Bergen’s central administration. The Division is organised into the following units:
Section for Academic Quality
Head of section: Martin Kahrs Lie
The Section for Academic Quality consists of the professional groups Quality and Analysis, FS (Student Information System), Coordination and Communication, as Learning Environment.
Area of work
The Section shall support the quality of education and contribute to the secure management and operation of administrative and educational systems, including:
- Strengthening and highlighting that quality assurance and educational development in courses and study programmes are of a high international standard
- Leading the coordination of advisory services for externally funded projects related to education
- Supporting the Rectorate, faculties, and departments with communication, analyses, and statistics for decision-making processes
- Ensuring a strong and comprehensive learning environment for students throughout their entire course of study, in collaboration with the faculties
- Managing and administering the student administrative systems, including FS (Student Information System)
Section for International Relations
Head of section: Nina Gry Stein
The Section for International Relations comprises the subject groups Mobility and CHARM-EU.
Area of work
The Section for International Relations shall:
- Serve as a centre of expertise in internationalisation for the entire University of Bergen (UiB), and contribute to UiB achieving its strategic objectives within the field of internationalisation.
- Work to ensure that all UiB students who wish to do so have the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes, and provide them with appropriate support and follow-up.
- Receive and provide high-quality support and follow-up to international students.
- Operate and coordinate the International Centre, as well as the work related to student mobility and international education programmes.
- Contribute to establishing and managing the organisational structure for the CHARM collaboration, and coordinate activities within CHARM.
Section for Academic Administration
Head of section: Torunn Valen
The Section for Academic Administration comprises the two subject groups Admissions, and Examinations and Timetabling.

- Operate and further develop high-quality services for applicants, students, academic and administrative staff, faculties, and departments in the areas of admissions and examinations
- Ensure quality and efficient operations within admissions and examination processes
- Administer its responsibilities in accordance with national legislation and local regulations
Section for Educational Development
Head of section: Bo Byrkjeland
The Section for Educational Development consists of the subject groups Lifelong Learning (UiB Videre) and Learning Support.

The section shall coordinate continuing and further education activities at UiB and act as a driving force for further development in line with UiB’s strategy, as well as lead the coordination of guidance for externally funded projects related to education.
- Provide guidance and practical support to academic communities in the development of new continuing and further education (EVU) offerings and the redesign of existing programmes
- Contribute to ensuring that UiB delivers high-quality services to students and staff related to continuing and further education
- Serve as a liaison between academic communities at UiB and external partners and commissioning clients
- Ensure that UiB maintains an EVU portfolio and practices in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Teacher Education Centre
Head of section: Ranveig Lote
Area of work
The Teacher Education Centre has academic and administrative responsibility for the teacher education programme as a whole at the University of Bergen (UiB). We hold decision-making and executive authority in accordance with resolutions adopted by the Steering Committee and the Joint Programme Board, and we also serve as the secretariat for both bodies.
We also work to foster a shared teacher education community for students and staff, and we collaborate closely with the faculties.
