What the committee does
The committee has particular responsibility for the university's work on developing courses and study programmes, and for the overall quality of education. It works to ensure that quality assurance is coordinated across the institution.
The committee also has particular responsibility for student recruitment and study information, and works on internationalization by proposing and following up measures that improve student exchange to and from other countries.
Responsibility for the learning environment is shared. The committee works to safeguard the overall learning environment in collaboration and dialogue with the Learning Environment Committee. Where responsibility for an individual matter is unclear, the two committees decide together.
What the committee can decide
The committee is advisory on matters of education strategy — its advice goes to the University Board, which decides.
The committee does, however, hold real decision-making authority in one area: it allocates the funding for strategic education measures, following the budget and guidelines set by the University Board.
How a matter reaches the committee
If you have a matter you believe the committee should consider, approach the pro- or vice-dean for education at your faculty. Students should approach the student representatives or the Student Parliament, which nominates them.
The Director of the Division of Student and Academic Affairs prepares cases and gives recommendations in consultation with the Pro-Rector for Education.
Members of the committee
The committee is chaired by the Pro-Rector for Education. Its other members are the pro- and vice-deans for education — one from each faculty — and three student representatives, all with personal deputies. Students are nominated by the Student Parliament and appointed for one year at a time. The Pro-Rector is a permanent observer.
