Innovation Committee

The Innovation Committee advises UiB's leadership on innovation. The committee coordinates the university's innovation work and raises the visibility of its breadth, and works to enable research-driven innovation, innovation in teaching, and good cooperation with business and the public sector.

What kind of body is this?

  • Type: Advisory committee
  • Appointed by: The University Board
  • Reports to: The university leadership
  • Meetings: Two to four times per semester
  • Secretariat: Division of Research and Innovation

What the committee does

UiB's innovation work draws on the full breadth of the university's academic fields. Ideas from students and staff should be able to be realized and contribute to a better functioning and more sustainable society.

The committee has a central role in carrying out UiB's commitment to innovation. It works to build a culture of innovation at the university, and to improve the sharing of information and the coordination of innovation work across units.

The committee advises on how UiB can secure good conditions for innovation, and identifies initiatives that strengthen research-based innovation among academic staff and students. It also advises on how innovation activities can be developed further, and how the administrative support functions should be organized.

In addition, the committee works to increase external funding from national and European sources.

What the committee can decide

The committee does not make decisions. Its advice goes to the university leadership, which decides.

How a matter reaches the committee

Members may propose matters for consideration, and the chair sets the agenda. If you have a matter you believe the committee should look at, approach the pro- or vice-dean with responsibility for innovation at your faculty, or contact the innovation section in the Division of Research and Innovation.

The committee emphasizes discussion and the exchange of experience, with the aim of developing best practice in the matters it considers.

Members of the committee

The committee is designed to cover innovation work across the whole organization. One pro- or vice-dean with responsibility for innovation sits on the committee from each faculty, together with a representative from the University Museum. These members are appointed for four years. Students and temporary academic staff each have one representative, appointed for one year.
