About the Faculty

The Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD) brings together around 700 students and 190 staff across the fields of art, music and design. Located across two campuses in Bergen, the faculty educates future artists, designers, musicians, composers, music therapists, musicologists and educators, while advancing knowledge through artistic research and scientific research.

PhD opportunities in art, music and design

Are you interested in developing new knowledge through artistic practice or scientific research? KMD offers PhD education in artistic research, as well as doctoral studies in music therapy and musicology.

Artistic and scientific research

Research at KMD spans artistic research and scientific research, with a commitment to both excellence-driven and challenge-driven research. Key areas of strength include music therapy, music and health and technology including AI.

Workshops, studios and learning facilities

Our workshops for Fine art and Design are located at Møllendalsveien 61, where students and researchers have access to 12 workshops and specialised facilities for art and design.

The Grieg Academy is located at Lars Hilles gate 3 and offers practice rooms, studios and concert facilities for music students and researchers.
