With a wide range of study programmes, competitive PhD positions and internationally recognized research groups, The Department of Informatics at UiB is an academic hub for computer science and information technology in Norway.

Research

The Department of Informatics conducts theoretical and applied research. We have research groups specializing in algorithms, bioinformatics, machine learning, optimization, software development theory, computer security, data visualization, and didactics.

Studying informatics

We offer education in computer science at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels, as well as an integrated master’s/civil engineering degree and a one-year programme. Students learn programming, working with data, and understanding the role of technology in society.
