Professor at the Department of Clinical Dentistry (IKO) and senior consultant at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Haukeland University Hospital (HUS). Works with orofacial pain including TMJ pathology. Builded a TMJ team with Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons at HUS. Contributed to building up the multidisciplinary National TMD project in Bergen together with the Pain Clinic at HUS which in 2018 became a National Unit for Orofacial pain at HUS. Manages an interdisciplinary pain group at the Department of Clinical Dentistry (IKO) at UiB for patients with orofacial pain. 

Leader of the Clinical Odontology Research group at IKO which is one of four research groups at the department. 

Head of the Orofacial Pain research group at IKO/HUS in which several PhD students, research students and master's students contribute to the results.

Contributing to a multicenter study with St Olav University Hospital in Trondheim, includes patients with facial pain (peripheral idiopatic facial pain (PIFP)) who receive botoxin injections into Spenopalatin aganglion to cure the pain. Part of the NorJIA group with several PhD students, a multidisciplinary multicenter study on arthritis in children and adolescents with influence in the jaw joint. Part of Tissue enginering group at IKO with several PhD candidates, basic research with stem cell regeneration of jaw bone and TMJ cartilage.

Previously worked as a Senior Lecturer / Chief Dentist and Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Karolinska Institutet / Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, Sweden. Was a member of the Multidisciplinary Pain Group at the hospital and in the Dentistry Pain Group at the Department of Odontology (2000-2012). Received her doctorate grade at the Department of Pharmacology, the dissertation was about the role of neuropeptides in the endogenous pain-inhibiting system in acute pain and stress (1994). Docentur (2007) and specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Karolinska Institutet (2005).

Teaching

Teaches clinical dental students in the 4th and 5th year of oral surgery and oral medicine. Gives a course on Pain on year 5.

Teaches specialist candidates clinically and theoretically in oral surgery and oral medicine. Teaches Specialist Candidates in Oral Biology and Pain.
