Short info

I am passionate about improving the lives of infants born in low-resource settings and their families, especially those born preterm, through exploring low-cost, feasible and sustainable interventions. I have recently completed a pilot randomised clinical trial on the impact of early CPAP in the delivery room for infants born <1500g in Uganda. Currently, I am co-principal investigator on the SSOSS trial, a randomised clinical trial evaluating the impact of sunflower seed oil on the survival, growth and rates of infection in infants born <1500g in Uganda.

- ORCID 0000-0001-7975-745X - Kathy is a British paediatrician and has been the Neonatal Lead at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda since 2014. She undertook her medical training at the University of Oxford, UK and was awarded her Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2011. - She undertook a MSc (Research) in Paediatrics from the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Andrew Pollard exploring the aetiology of paediatric pneumonia on the Thai-Burmese border. - She was awarded her PhD in 2021 from the University of Liverpool. Her thesis, under the supervision of Prof Melissa Gladstone, describes the aetiology, clinical, radiological findings and 1 year outcomes of Ugandan infants with serious bacterial infections. - She is currently undertaking her Post-doctoral fellowship at University of Bergen under the mentorship of Prof Ingunn Engebretsen looking at the risk factors for post-natal growth failure and the role of donor human milk in infants <1500g in Uganda.
