Research

Knut Høivik's current field of research is energy law, including energy contracts and license systems.   He is working on a project on liability related to decommissioning of oil & gas facilities.  He is also chief editor of the Norwegian Journal of Commercial Law (Tidsskrift for forretningsjus). He is also appointed as aribtrator in commercial disputes, especially within the energy industry

Knut Høivik has practiced over 15 years as an energy lawyer.  Prior to joining the faculty, he was Vice President in the Legal Department of Equinor ASA for 5 years.  He headed up the legal support to  Equinor´s international upstream portfolio.  The last two years he was responsible for the legal support to Equinor's upstream business on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Prior to joining Equinor, Knut was partner in the law firm Schjødt, a leading Norwegian law firm. He was lead partner of Schjødt's office in Stavanger, and head of Energy, Offshore, Shipping and Infrastructure Group.  He worked jprimarily for E&P companies on regulatory issues, commercial negotiations  and license transactions. He was also engaged in commercial arbitration and used as mediator within the petroleum industry.  

Knut Høivik holds a PhD on Corporate Criminal Liability. In 2018 he was appointed by the Ministry of Justice to evaluate and propose amendments to the Norwegian legislation on corporate criminal liability and corruption. His report was submitted to the Ministry in May 2021.
