My PhD project examines how memories related to World War II are transmitted within families and across generations, as well as the relationship between public and private memories. I focus on the emotional connection that many descendants of Nazis/Nazi party members and Holocaust victims have to a past they did not experience themselves, as it is expressed in their own narratives, and how these narratives relate to memory cultures of the war in Norway and Denmark.
