Research
Daltveit is a professor in epidemiology with focus on perinatal and reproductive epidemiology. She is also a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Daltveit is currently engaged in neuroepidemiological projects on multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. She is supervisor and PI of a sub project in a collaboration between the NRC funded NEUROSYSMED center Home - Neuro-SysMed led by professor Kjell-Morten Myhr (UIB) and the NRC funded project Drug Repurposing fOr Neurological disEases (DRONE) DRONE - Drug Repurposing fOr Neurological disEases | Section for epidemiology and medical statistics | UiB led by professor Trond Riise (UIB). Daltveit’s research topics here are perinatal and lifestyle risk factors for development of multiple sclerosis. Daltveit is also a Norwegian PI in a post-authorization safety study on prenatal exposure to antiepileptics and risks of adverse birth outcomes and postnatal and neurodevelopmental morbidity in the Nordic countries. This is in collaboration with researchers from the Nordic countries and led by the University of Aarhus, Denmark. One scientific paper and two reports to the European Medicines Agency are so far published in this study.
Since 2004 Daltveit has been engaged in global reproductive health research. She has been a collaborator and supervisor in a project where a NUFU-funded birth registry was established at the KCMC-hospital in Tanzania. This project resulted in several publications, and 4 PhD students and two master students from Tanzania received their degrees at the University of Bergen.
Another topic of interest has been development of cardiovascular mortality after pregnancy complications where Daltveit was PI and main supervisor.
Daltveit has been a collaborator in several post doc and PhD projects led by other research groups. Examples of collaboration in post doc projects are risk factors and pregnancy outcomes related to uterine rupture of the membranes, and reproductive outcome in women with rheumatic diseases. Collaboration in PhD projects include pregnancy outcomes in women of migrant origin and several projects in neuroepidemiology, such as pregnancy outcome in women with epilepsy, pregnancy outcome in women with multiple sclerosis, maternal pregnancy folate status and language development, quality of lifestyle in women and men with epilepsy related to pregnancy, and teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs in pregnancy. In these projects her expertise has mainly been knowledge about registry epidemiology and analytical methods.
Teaching
Daltveit teaches epidemiology for medical students, master students and PhD students.
Daltveit is a member of the academic group in epidemiology at IGS where she was a group leader during 2012-2022.
