Research
Kamilla Haugland-Pruitt is a neuroscientist with a strong interest in sleep and cognitive decline in people with dementia. She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Elderly and Nursing Home Medicine (SEFAS) at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care. At SEFAS, she is engaged in pioneering research on dementia, including the European Research Council Consolidator Grants project on Decoding Death and Dying in people with Dementia using Digital phenotyping.
She started her journey in neuroscience as a master student focusing on neuroanatomy at the Nobel Prize winning Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience, NTNU. Her professional experience spans roles such as Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh and Senior Advisor at the Norwegian Directorate of Health. She has also conducted research at the University of California San Diego.
Haugland-Pruitt has a unique background in neuroscience, encompassing innovative sensor technology, intracranial brain surgery and cellular recordings in rodents, molecular biology, neuroanatomy, and clinical experience in nursing homes. Her research includes learning and memory, behavior, sleep, development of connections, and cognitive impairment in aging and dementia. Her goal is to bridge basic and clinical neuroscience with regards to cognitive impairments during ageing and dementia. Kamilla is currently part of the Momentum 2025-2026.
