Short info

I explore what happens when AI brings historical figures back into conversation. I study chatbots that let us “talk” to the past and examine how these encounters reshape memory, learning, and public debate, asking how generative AI is influencing the stories we share about history.
Research

Lina (she/her) is a PhD Research Fellow engaged in the Extending Digital Narrative (XDN) Project at the Center for Digital Narrative, Department of Linguistic, Literary, and Aesthetic Studies. Lina explores AI chatbots that simulate historical figures through generative technology and reenactment, what she terms histobots (Harder 2024). These simulations allow users to interact with AI-generated versions of individuals from Anne Frank to Alexander the Great. Her interdisciplinary work combines history and technology to investigate how AI shapes historiography, memory, and informal education. Through both critical analysis and practical design (see: Hedy Lamarr Chatbot), she explores how generative narratives might support more inclusive approaches to learning about the past.

Lina has a professional background in museum practice, which includes work in digital content creation at German contemporary history museums in Berlin, Bonn and Leipzig and has completed a two-year academic traineeship (German “Volontariat”) at a museum dedicated to the evolution of communication. She has worked on projects from exhibition curation to developing an online guide to Berlin’s Sites of Unity and the curation of exhibitions. She holds an M.A. in World Heritage Studies from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and a B.A. in cultural studies with a focus on history from Saarland University. Her earlier research has adressed Holocaust education in Poland and the use of audiovisual Holocaust survivor testimonies in German Holocaust education.

Lina is a member of the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR), a member of the working group for the Norwegian Network for Digital Humanities and Cultural Organizations (DHKO) and former co-chair and member of STIP-HF (2025, the interest committee for all PhD candidates at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Bergen.
