Embodied Agency in Generative Performance: Transcending the Administrative Interface
My artistic research explores the relationship between the performing body, generative artificial intelligence, and embodied forms of interaction. My PhD project, Embodied Agency in Generative Performance: Transcending the Administrative Interface, investigates how generative systems might move beyond text-based prompting toward forms of interaction grounded in movement, gesture, breath, and physiological signals.
At the centre of the research is the development of a “Somatic Synthesizer”, a real-time performative environment in which bodily movement and biometric input influence generative audiovisual scenography. Rather than positioning AI as a passive tool, the project explores the possibility of the computational system acting as a responsive and sometimes unpredictable co-performer.
The research draws on somatic practice, embodied cognition, affective computing, and human-computer interaction. Traditional Lanna movement practices and Butoh provide contrasting bodily vocabularies through which I investigate how culturally specific and non-normative forms of movement interact with computer vision and other systems of machine interpretation.
More broadly, the project asks how artists can reclaim agency within increasingly automated creative environments, and how computational tools might adapt to the complexity of the human body rather than requiring the body to adapt to standardized technological interfaces.
2019 - 2026
Creative Director
Old Chiangmai Cultural Center, Chiang Mai, Thailand
My work at the Old Chiangmai Cultural Center focuses on cultural preservation, creative strategy, digital transformation, and the development of cultural and creative economies. I work across artistic programming, cultural heritage, technology, and interdisciplinary partnerships, including the integration of research initiatives such as ACMOD into the centre’s broader cultural strategy.
2025 – 2026
Researcher, ACMOD
Affective Computing Model for Facial Expression
ACMOD is an international research collaboration exploring affective computing and human-centred artificial intelligence. My work focuses on connecting cultural knowledge and heritage practices with emerging technologies in affective computing.
Affiliations include the Old Chiangmai Cultural Center, University of Oulu, and Nantes Université.
Research Fellow, Nantes Université
April – July 2025, May - September 2026
Research Fellow, University of Oulu

Outreach
My outreach practice focuses on connecting artistic research with cultural communities, creative industries, and public life. I have initiated and co-developed platforms such as Chiangmai Jazz City and Chiangmai Gastro Society, creating collaborations across art, music, gastronomy, technology, and urban cultural development.
Much of this work has been rooted in Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand, where I have worked across cultural and creative sectors to develop public programmes, collaborative projects, and interdisciplinary initiatives. I am particularly interested in how artistic practice can operate beyond institutional settings and contribute to wider conversations around cultural identity, participation, and contemporary urban life.
Alongside these initiatives, I have worked in interdisciplinary and international contexts that bring together art, technology, and research. My current PhD research at the University of Bergen extends this public-facing practice through workshops, presentations, and collaborative experiments around embodied interaction, generative media, and artificial intelligence.
Cultural and Community Development
My outreach practice extends artistic and cultural work into public space, community development, and cross-sector collaboration. Since 2019, I have initiated and co-developed cultural platforms in Chiang Mai that connect artists, communities, public institutions, and the private sector.
Co-Founder and Festival Director, Chiang Mai Street Jazz Festival
I co-founded and direct the Chiang Mai Street Jazz Festival, a public cultural platform supporting local musicians, creative communities, and the city’s cultural economy. The festival also connects cultural programming with civic participation and environmental initiatives.
Co-Founder and Project Director, Chiangmai Touch Social Enterprise Co., Ltd.
Through Chiangmai Touch, I work with community, government, and private-sector partners on projects related to sustainable urban development, cultural tourism, design, and the creative economy.

Biography
Sarisa is a Thai multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose practice has developed across performance art, sculpture, digital illustration, generative media, and interdisciplinary cultural projects. Her work is concerned with the relationship between the body, identity, technology, and cultural memory.
Her early practice was rooted in performance and sculpture, with the body functioning as both material and site of investigation. Over time, physical adaptation and changing modes of artistic production led her practice increasingly toward digital and generative media. Her lived experience as a transgender woman has also informed an ongoing engagement with questions of embodiment, identity, transformation, and the systems through which bodies are represented and classified.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Chiang Mai University and is currently a PhD Research Fellow in Artistic Research at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen. Her doctoral research develops from her long-standing interest in bodily knowledge toward the relationship between somatic practice and generative artificial intelligence.
Alongside her artistic practice, Dhammalangka has worked across cultural development and creative-sector initiatives in Thailand. She co-founded Chiangmai Gastro Society and Chiangmai Jazz City, developing collaborations across art, culture, technology, gastronomy, and urban development. These experiences have extended her practice beyond the studio into collaborative and interdisciplinary forms of cultural production.
