Research

My work mainly explores the intersections between social inequality, air/atmosphere, energy transition(s), toxicity/pollution, and public health in South Africa. I have conducted fieldwork in petrochemical fenceline communities looking to the varied ways in which residents work toward a just transition and a more equitable future. More broadly, my work pertains to pressing global issues of pollution and industrial modes of production - and consequently how connected issues are negotiated and given expression at a local level.
