Bachelor's thesis

A bachelor's thesis is a written assignment where you go in depth in a specific subject You will work independently during a whole semester.

What is a bachelor's thesis?

There are many variations of a bachelor's thesis, and you should therefore read up on the course page at uib.no and MittUiB , so that you know what applies to your study program.

Most bachelor's theses are supervised. This means that you will have an academic supervisor who will guide you along while you work on your thesis.

Typically, a bachelor's thesis is a large task that you have largely chosen yourself. The task can be anywhere between 10-30 credits. Some bachelor's theses are theory-heavy, while others require a practical component, such as fieldwork.

Formal requirements, academic requirements, cheating and academic integrity

In the exam you will show what you know and what you have learned in the course. You will find what you are expected to have learned during the course under the course description.

At UiB there may be special requirements for each exam, and these may differ from what you are used to from secondary school, studies in other subjects and at other universities or colleges. Therefore, you must familiarise yourself with the rules that apply to the specific exam you are about to take.

General requirements are that you must have solved the assignment yourself, and you must always cite sources if you are inspired by or use the work of others. Familiarise yourself with the rules for cheating and citation before taking the exam.

Your exam answer must also meet the requirements specified in the exam paper, and possibly other requirements stated in the course description or on the course page in MittUiB.
