Erasmus Traineeship
Like an Erasmus study exchange, an Erasmus traineeship must be part of your degree programme (bachelor’s, master’s, or integrated degree programe). The traineeship can either replace a semester at UiB or be included as an additional semester in your degree.
You can complete an Erasmus traineeship in any Erasmus Programme Country. This includes all EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Türkiye.
If you choose an Erasmus traineeship, you will receive an additional Erasmus grant of EUR 150 per month on top of the regular Erasmus grant.
From the autumn semester of 2026, you will receive a grant for the entire approved exchange period. The grant amount is calculated based on the actual duration of your stay, as specified in the Learning Agreement and confirmed by the host institution.
Training Agreement
For an Erasmus traineeship, you must have a Training Agreement. The agreement must be signed by:
- You (the student)
- A representative from your study programme or department at UiB, most often a student adviser
- The organisation, institution, or company where you will complete your traineeship
The agreement describes the content of the traineeship and ensures that it can be approved as part of your degree programme at UiB.
How to apply
- Find a company, organisation, or institution where you would like to complete your traineeship.
- Confirm with your study programme or faculty that the traineeship can be approved as part of your degree.
- Complete a Training Agreement and ensure that it is signed by you, UiB, and the host organisation.
- Send the signed Training Agreement to erasmus@uib.no. The signed agreement constitutes your application for an Erasmus traineeship grant.
- If you are awarded an Erasmus grant for your traineeship, you must sign a grant agreement with UiB.
Students applying for an Erasmus traineeship as part of their degree programme will be prioritised if the number of applicants exceeds the available grants.
UiB does not normally have agreements with external organisations for Erasmus traineeships. You are therefore responsible for finding a company, organisation, or institution where you can complete your traineeship.
Erasmus traineeship after graduation
You may also undertake an Erasmus traineeship after completing your degree.
To be eligible for an Erasmus traineeship after graduation, your Training Agreement must be completed, signed by all parties, and submitted as an application to erasmus@uib.no while you are still registered as a student at UiB.
The traineeship must be completed within 12 months of graduating. The same rules apply as for a regular Erasmus traineeship, but the traineeship does not need to be part of your degree.
There is an overall limit of 12 months of Erasmus mobility per degree level. If you have already participated in an Erasmus exchange during your degree, this will reduce the number of months for which you can receive an Erasmus grant for a traineeship after graduation.
If you undertake an Erasmus traineeship after graduation, UiB recommends that you apply for post-study rights (poststudierett) for the duration of the traineeship. This may provide a better framework for matters such as insurance during the traineeship period.
You can apply for post-study rights through Søknadsweb (external link).
