A bachelor’s programme is a three-year course of study (180 ECTS credits) leading to a bachelor’s degree. It typically includes:
- Up to 30 credits of introductory courses
- 90 credits of specialisation within a subject or approved combination of subjects
- 60 credits from other subjects
The degree must include one or more independent assignments totalling at least 10 credits. At least 60 of the credits must be completed at UiB in order for the university to issue your degree certificate.
The structure and content of the degree are defined in each programme description. Based on these, you must choose your subjects and courses and confirm your educational plan each semester. The university also facilitates study abroad opportunities as part of your degree, if UiB has an agreement with the host institution or if the host university offers recognised academic programmes.
The university’s responsibilities regarding bachelor’s programmes:
- To provide a course of study that qualifies you for further study and future employment
- To offer clear and relevant information and guidance about degrees, programme structure, subject combinations, career paths, and further study options
- To issue a diploma, including the Diploma Supplement (an internationally recognised certificate), when you meet all the requirements for your degree
- To facilitate study abroad as an integrated part of the degree
- To provide information about leave of absence and policies when taking a break from your studies
The university expects you as a student to:
- Follow the laws and regulations (Norwegian) (external link) that apply to your studies
- Confirm Part II of your educational plan and complete your semester registration each term
- Apply for leave of absence if you plan to take a break from your studies
- Contact your academic adviser as early as possible if you fall behind or need to make changes to your academic progress (educational plan Part II)
