Service declaration on library services

On this page you will find an outline of the university’s responsibilities regarding library services, and what is expected and recommended for you as a student.

The University Library is a vital part of the academic and educational support offered at UiB. In addition to borrowing books and accessing computers, printing, and copying services, you’ll also have access to quality-assured electronic and physical collections, as well as information and guidance services.

The University Library, in collaboration with academic departments, offers courses in information literacy, where you will learn how to search for, assess, and use information, as well as how to cite sources and manage references.

The university’s responsibilities for library services:

  • To provide good access to literature, journals, and other documents for education and research purposes.
  • To ensure strong access to electronic literature and information services through UB’s website.
  • To offer training and guidance in using the library.
  • To offer training and support in developing information literacy skills.

The university expects you as a student to:

  • Follow the library’s borrowing rules.

The university recommends that you:

  • Familiarise yourself with UB’s literature and information services relevant to your subject area.
  • Make use of the library’s information resources to build the skills needed for your studies and future career.
  • Ask for training and support in using library services when you need it.
