Activate your user account
If you are a new student, you will receive an email from UiB before the semester starts. You will be asked to activate your account, in order to gain access to all the services you can use as a student. Remember to check the spam filter in your inbox if you have not received the email. It may have ended up there.
In UiBhjelp you will find a step-by-step guide on how to activate your account:
How do you log in?
You log in with your username, password and two-factor authentication.
Your username consists of three or four numbers and three or four letters. You can either enter just your username, or the email that contains your username (username@uib.no). The login window will tell you which one to use.
After 14 days, two-factor authentication becomes mandatory. This means that you cannot log in and use any of the services until you have set up two-factor authentication.
Two-factor authentication
When you log in to one of the services at UiB, you will be notified that you must set up two-factor authentication, also called two-step authentication.
- You do this by choosing an authentication method.
- We recommend that you use the Authenticator app on your mobile phone.
Two-factor authentication gives you extra security. It prevents others from logging into your account, even if they know your password.
Changing your password
You must change your password at least once a year. You will receive an email reminder when it is time to change your password.
If you want to change your password before this, you can go to passord.uib.no, select "My account" and follow the steps to change it.
Frequently asked questions
I forgot my password. What do I do?
If you have forgotten your password, you can go to passord.uib.no and select "Forgot password" to make a new password.
I'm having trouble logging in. What can I do?
Problems with logging in are often caused by you having a user account at another university, or by working for, for example, the municipality or school. In this case, you may be sent to another institution when you log in, because your browser remembers that you have logged in there previously.
To avoid this from happening, you can open a new Incognito window (Google Chrome) or InPrivate window (Microsoft Edge) when you log in. You can also use different browsers for each account.
If there are other causes for your problem, you must contact BRITA , which is the user support division for IT services at UiB.
I no longer have access to information on my user account. What do I do?
As long as you are a student at UiB, you have access to our services. We will send you a reminder by email 30, 7 and 1 day(s) before your account is closed.
We recommend that you transfer the files you want to take with you before you complete or end your studies with us. Remember to think about what you need from My UiB, OneDrive and your student email.
Can I extend my account? What happens to my account when I'm no longer a student?
30 days before your student account expires, we will send you a reminder by email. If you would like to extend your access, use the link in the email or log in to https://tikling.uib.no/.
To log in to UiB access, you must be on UiB's computer network, either on the university campus or connected with a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
After your account is terminated, you will not be able to restore it.
